On September 12, 2019, Pope Francis launched a global education alliance: the Global Compact on Education. The Pope asks to join efforts so that education generates peace, justice and acceptance among peoples.
At the Pontifical Lateran University, Pope Francis has once again addressed the theme of education, which is central to his teaching.
The Pope's message was commented on by young students and by the Director General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay.
On October 5, 2021, on the occasion of World Teachers’ and Educators’ Day, held in the Vatican the meeting «Religions and Education: towards a Global Compact on Education». The representatives of the religions of the world dialogued together with Pope Francis about the main educational challenges and, on that occasion, greeted the teachers and educators of all the world. At the end of the meeting, calling upon the cooperation of UNESCO, they invited the institutions of the world to put education at the very centre of the international agenda.
The Universities which, in the world, guide the research work on the Global Compact on Education met at the Academy of Sciences, in the Vatican. They valuated the work accomplished and planned the development of the GCE.
At the end of the meeting they were received by Pope Francis.

Inspired by the Global Compact on Education promoted by Pope Francis, the African Education Pact aims to educate young people by drawing on Christian values and traditional African culture. It was launched at the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar, held in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The 38th World Youth Day took place from 1 to 6 August 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal. In this extraordinary educational context, with Pope Francis and young people from all over the world, we have relaunched the Global Compact on Education commitments.
